SES Mobile App

In November 2020 the development of the “SES-101” mobile application to ensure rapid responding of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine (the “SES”) to emergencies have been completed and the app has been officially transferred to the SES in Donetsk Oblast. It is publically available for usage on iOS and Android smartphones. Its development was based on the principles of accessibility, so that people with disabilities can easily use the application to communicate with emergency services.

The application provides the following main features:

  • urgent calls to the SES, so users can notify rescuers of an emergency as quickly as possible;
  • notifications about a dangerous object can be sent through the application, indicating not only the physical location, but also adding an accompanying description and photos;
  • The “Alphabet of Safety” section, with useful information of types of emergencies and how to respond to them;
  • The “Map” aimed to show the location of the nearest SES rescue station.

At the time of joining the UN RPP, the development of the app has been already initiated, however, thanks to the personal input, the technical part of the terms of references has been significantly improved to ensure proper coverage of possible usage as well as respective changes to design, UI/UX have been introduced.

It is expected that the process of informing the population will be improved and it will be especially relevant for people living in remote area or during extreme weather conditionals.
